What you’ll do:

Reporting to the VP Technical Pricing, you will be responsible for technical pricing for Aviva’s $1.5B personal property book. You will lead the personal property actuarial indications team and work closely with Street Pricing to deliver crucial insights, which will drive the pricing actions required to achieve Aviva’s strategic objectives.

  • Quarterly rate indications for the $1.5B personal property book including the Broker, RBC and Direct channels. Responsible for developing industry-leading costing models and analyzing changes in claims trends, frequency/severity, driving patterns and shifts in mix of business.

  • Support regional pricing teams during the rate filing process and in communications with regulators to influence outcomes.

  • Partner with key stakeholders to challenging the business to outperform against targets and deliver on its strategic imperatives.

  • Support the VP Technical Pricing and the Personal Insurance Leadership team in providing actuarial input into the company’s annual business plan. Be able to explain the key drivers of the projections and compare them to the actual financial results.

  • Lead a team of actuaries. Proactively manage recruitment, talent development and performance of the staff. Drive a culture of high performance and engagement and lead by example.

  • Proactively seek opportunities to improve the technical costing models. Engage with Street Pricings, Claims, Reserving and Capital to improve accuracy and embed insights from the other technical teams. Be willing to challenge status quo and ask questions.

  • Continuously improve the efficiency of the indications process. Seek to automate manual steps and eliminate redundant work. Be able to prioritize improvements, set a plan and execute.

  • Communicate the output of rate adequacy models to the relevant stakeholders. Be able to tell the story behind the numbers in a clear way and leverage visuals. Actively seek better ways to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Embed procedures to reduce risk of material errors and work to make the indications more robust. Lead by example and embed a risk-aware culture into the team. Champion adherence to Aviva’s Pricing Standard and Model Risk Business Standard.

  • Actively participate in Aviva’s actuarial events and committees. Be involved through campus talent programs, the annual Actuarial Forum and/or other opportunities.

  • Provide support to the Street Pricing team for rate filings, regulatory reforms, and product changes. 

What you’ll bring:

  • FCAS or near-FCAS

  • 7+ years of actuarial experience, with at least 5 years in pricing

  • 2+ years of people management experience

  • Ability to coach staff and motivate them to perform at their best

  • Structured analytical thinking and desire to challenge and debate ideas

  • Ability to adopt a process-engineering mindset

  • Strong data skills (SAS, Python are preferred)
